Who needs an alarm clock when you have a little brother??

PostHeaderIcon Kickin’ the Habit

I am happy to report that Josiah’s biggest triumph as of late was ditching the pacifier! YEAH!!! Again, as I did with Anya, I spent more time worrying about how the transition would go than was necessary. I decided suddenly one night that it was time to de-pacifier him and we haven’t looked back since. We had a few somewhat rough nights at first, but for the most part, it was a huge success and we are a much happier household now that we aren’t scrambling to find a pacifier every 2 seconds! I wish I had some big secret to reveal or could get some huge parenting kudos for how both my kids kicked the paci habit so quickly and easily, but I think it all boils down to one thing: WE LUCKED OUT!!! No one realizes this more than me!

PostHeaderIcon A beautiful weekend….

…..to be outside. Not to be a Hawkeye fan!

This last week we were lucky enough to have Aunt Joni stay with us. I enjoyed having an extra pair of hands to help me out and the kids enjoyed having someone extra to play with. The week went too fast and we are already looking forward to having her back next year!

Over the weekend we went to Winfield so G’ma Jeryl, Papa Ronnie & Joni could watch the kids while Jason & I went to the Iowa game. It was an absolutely gorgeous day to be outside & I was in heaven being able to wear shorts in November! Unfortunately the game wasn’t as enjoyable as the weather, so now we are hoping the Hawks can regroup for the big game this weekend against Ohio State!!

In other news, Josiah had his 18 month checkup last week checked in at 25 lbs and 33 inches. He jumped up a little on the height chart to the 50-75 percentile, so that was a nice surprise. I am still not holding out much hope for having a 6 footer in the house, but you never know :) We saw a different pediatrician for this appointment b/c our regular ped is on maternity leave and the new pediatrician couldn’t get over how talkative and interactive Josiah was with her. In fact, when she walked into the room Josiah let out a loud “HI” and ran right over to her & she said she thought she had the wrong room b/c most 18 month old kids run & hide at the sight of someone unfamiliar, yet alone a doctor. Yep that’s my child…..willing to run right into the arms of a stranger :)

PostHeaderIcon Busted!

Yesterday at various time throughout the day I would find random “puddles” of water on the floor. At first I thought maybe Josiah had un-diapered himself and peed on the floor, but he was always fully clothed when I would check. Then I thought that maybe one of the kid’s sippy cups were leaking, so I checked all those and they were fine as well. So, the mystery went unsolved and I basically just forgot about it. Until this morning…..when I came around the corner into the kitchen and saw this:

thirsty lil' bugger...

and this:

bottoms up!

Yep–Josiah has been helping himself to water from the fridge. His “drinking from a cup” skills are pretty much non-existent at the moment–although apparently not from lack of trying. He basicially hasn’t figured out that you have to actually stop tilting the cup back before taking the cup away from your lips, and every time he takes a drink, a big puddle appears on the floor. Ah, now I can rest easy….mystery solved!

Except now I need to figure out how to keep him away from the fridge….

JP 18 months!

Happy 18 months to our smiley (and ornery) little man! We love you Josiah John Paul!

PostHeaderIcon Sweet Corn!

Josiah had his first experience with sweet corn the other night at supper and to say he liked it would be an understatement! We first tried to cut some off the cob and feed it to him that way, but being the little copy-cat he is right now, he wanted to eat it like we were. So, we gave him his own cob and turned him loose. This is how it went:

“Hey, how am I suppose to do this?”

“OK, I am getting the hang of this”

“Yep, this is how you do it”

“Now I am just showing off”

“What do you mean this is my last corn on the cob?”

“All done!”

“Oh sweet corn, I love you!”

PostHeaderIcon Hello August!

It’s not often that the last week of July is in the mid-70’s…but that is just another crazy weather week of Summer 09! Every night when we were going to bed Jason would say “it was a nice fall day today” and then proceed to talk about how close the first Hawkeye football game is. Although I hate to think of summer days dwindling to fall, I did take full advantage of the breezy, cool days and had every window possible open….ahh fresh air! Today’s temp of 90 forced us to close down and turn the AC back on, but it was definitely nice while it lasted!

We had another busy week last week. I worked my regular Tue/Wed shifts and then did a 10 hour seminar on Thursday to become certified to give immunizations. I had been dreading the seminar all summer and to my surprise, it was much more interesting (and not nearly as boring) as I had anticipated. Of course the worse part was where we had to give (and subsequently get) injections to practice our administering technique. Luckily, my partner and I were quick learners and only had to give/get the minimum 4 injections to pass! Yay for competent partners!!

Friday I hauled both kids down to the pediatrician for Josiah’s 15 month check and Anya’s 4 year check. I was prepared for the shots Josiah was scheduled to get, but had no idea Anya would be receiving her 4-6 year old shots at her 4 year check. So, for a few minutes I had two screaming, unhappy kids to deal with. Luckily, the unhappiness was short lived and all was soon forgotten on the ride home. As far as the check-ups, both kids are the picture of health and they even got quite a reaction out of our nurse when she came into our room to find both kids running around in just their underwear/diapers. Seriously, someone should really be supervising these kids…don’t you think :)

Here are a few pictures of the kids being silly!

Because why wouldn’t you want to fall asleep on the hard wood floor playing with a bath toy?

PostHeaderIcon Josiah’s New “Do”!

Jason & Josiah made a much needed trip to Roosevelt Barber Shop this weekend. I had decided it was time Josiah got a “big-boy” haircut and told the barber cutting his hair and make it “high and tight”. Well, he listened and now Josiah has an adorable new “butch” haircut. Check it out:

And from the side:

The 2 cowlicks above his temples add an interesting flair to this cut:

And of course it wouldn’t be my kids if they weren’t running around naked:

Doesn’t he look like such a big boy now:

And here are a few other pictures of the kids just goofing around.

Happy Sunday night!
