Sweet Corn!

Josiah had his first experience with sweet corn the other night at supper and to say he liked it would be an understatement! We first tried to cut some off the cob and feed it to him that way, but being the little copy-cat he is right now, he wanted to eat it like we were. So, we gave him his own cob and turned him loose. This is how it went:

“Hey, how am I suppose to do this?”

“OK, I am getting the hang of this”

“Yep, this is how you do it”

“Now I am just showing off”

“What do you mean this is my last corn on the cob?”

“All done!”

“Oh sweet corn, I love you!”

Wisconsin Dells 2009!

On Wednesday morning we loaded up the van and headed to the Wisconsin Dells for an end of summer mini-vacation with Papa Jim & G’ma Barb. We stayed at The Wilderness Resort and had a blast! The Wilderness has 4 indoor & 4 outdoor water parks in addition to 2 mini-golf courses, a laser tag area, a 3 story dry play area and so much more. Unfortunately due to the mid-60 degree weather and rain this week, we only got to experience the indoor water areas, but they were definitely enough to keep us entertained. I would have to say that our family’s favorite was the wave pool area which had a full-sized swimming pool that created 5 foot + waves every 15 minutes and was enclosed with a glass ceiling so you could still feel the sun shining but be inside–it was awesome!! Anya LOVED being in with the waves. She started out our trip riding the waves in an innertube and ended our trip swimming in the waves with nothing more than her life jacket on. I was exhausted by the end of the 15 minutes from being whipped around by the waves but she was all smiles and ready to go again every time the waves started up again! She has officially turned into a fish!!

Josiah had a great time playing in all the splash areas, loved floating in the lazy river and even braved a few slides. He also enjoyed taking his afternoon naps in the sunshine of the glass ceiling. He was such a trooper the whole trip and it was fun watching him get braver and braver in the water each day.

We had a great trip and a lot of fun in the water. Here are some pictures of all our wet fun!

  • State Fair 2009!

Yesterday after church we braved the crowds and headed off to the Iowa State Fair. We weren’t sure exactly what to expect as we had heard weather reports of severe thunderstorms with the possibility of hail, but we had nothing but sunshine! We had a fun day and the kids were great–we finally called it a night shortly after 9pm. While we were there we ventured out to the campground at the fair to see Jason’s Uncle Kenny & Aunt Brooke’s camper. We also had Allie with us most of the afternoon and Anya loved having her with us. It was a fun day and we were all pooped last night!

  • Lazy Days of Summer!

Yep…we have been pretty lazy lately. We haven’t had any big weekend plans for a few weeks now and have spent most of our free time playing outside, swimming and swinging. Just the same old same old! However, our normally very quiet piece of the world is going to be CRAZY starting today thanks to the Iowa State Fair!

Tonight Jason & I are heading to the Jeremy Camp/Steven Curtis Chapman concert at the fair with Brad & Steph Cathcart. We have been looking forward to it as Jason & I are both big Jeremy Camp fans and who doesn’t love Steven Curtis Chapman’s music. It should be a great concert and the weather looks nice, so it should be a fun evening!

  • Hello August!

It’s not often that the last week of July is in the mid-70’s…but that is just another crazy weather week of Summer 09! Every night when we were going to bed Jason would say “it was a nice fall day today” and then proceed to talk about how close the first Hawkeye football game is. Although I hate to think of summer days dwindling to fall, I did take full advantage of the breezy, cool days and had every window possible open….ahh fresh air! Today’s temp of 90 forced us to close down and turn the AC back on, but it was definitely nice while it lasted!

We had another busy week last week. I worked my regular Tue/Wed shifts and then did a 10 hour seminar on Thursday to become certified to give immunizations. I had been dreading the seminar all summer and to my surprise, it was much more interesting (and not nearly as boring) as I had anticipated. Of course the worse part was where we had to give (and subsequently get) injections to practice our administering technique. Luckily, my partner and I were quick learners and only had to give/get the minimum 4 injections to pass! Yay for competent partners!!

Friday I hauled both kids down to the pediatrician for Josiah’s 15 month check and Anya’s 4 year check. I was prepared for the shots Josiah was scheduled to get, but had no idea Anya would be receiving her 4-6 year old shots at her 4 year check. So, for a few minutes I had two screaming, unhappy kids to deal with. Luckily, the unhappiness was short lived and all was soon forgotten on the ride home. As far as the check-ups, both kids are the picture of health and they even got quite a reaction out of our nurse when she came into our room to find both kids running around in just their underwear/diapers. Seriously, someone should really be supervising these kids…don’t you think :)

Here are a few pictures of the kids being silly!
